Release day's are always full of excitement and nerves. Even more so with Brink of Passion as I'm at it alone this time, with no publisher behind me. Every emotion seems to be multiplied by ten.
To celebrate, I'm over at Love Romance Passion discussing my first interaction with Laurie. Stop on by and say hi!
http://www.loveromancepassion.com/brink-of-passion-by-sondrae-bennett/
Brink of Passion is now available on Kindle and Nook.
He'll do anything to protect his mate.
The last thing Laurie expects when she bumps into Max at the shifter
convention is finding her mate. Certainly not that her mate can shift
into a leopard. Wolves and leopards mix about as well as water and oil.
Or should she say, dogs and cats. Mating him means leaving her family,
her town, and the only home she's ever known. But the possibility of a
happily ever after is worth the risk, right?
Max couldn't be happier with his brazen, feisty wolf, but returning home
isn't the welcoming affair he'd expected. In his absence, his brother
has been attacked within the leap complex. Something must to be
seriously wrong. Could someone be using his loved ones to get to him?
When his worst fears prove true, his protective instinct goes into
overdrive. Will keeping Laurie mean putting her in danger?

Pursuing Dreams
I admire people who can put their dreams out there for the world to see. To me, there's something frightening about laying it all on the line like that. What happens when someone laughs at your dream, or tells you you're being unrealistic. No matter who or where you are, there are those people who want to put you down. Never giving voice to your dream is letting these bullies and naysayers win.
So, I'm going to take a step forward and put it out there. My dream is to someday be a New York Times Bestselling author. I know that it's going to take a lot of work. Most writers dream of this, and few achieve it. And the ones that do typically don't wake up and bam! on the Bestseller list. There is so much more to writing than just words on paper. But someday, I hope to count myself among their numbers. I will admit that I lost sight of this dream for awhile. But the fire of my lost dream has recently been reawakened and is stronger than ever.
Having said all that....if it never happens for me, that's okay, too. Because I think part of the adventure of pursuing your dreams is finding new ones along the way. Before Arctic Winds, my first book, came out four years ago this week, my dream had been to publish a book. Before that dream took shape, writing was a hobby for me. My career at the time had been stage management, and my dream had been to stage manage a Broadway show. I never did stage manage a Broadway show, because before my dream could be realized, a new dream, one so much more powerful and intense than the last, replaced it.

Marlon Wayans said, "Success is not a destination, but the
road that you're on. Being successful means that you're working hard and
walking your walk every day. You can only live your dream by working
hard towards it. That's living your dream."
I guess that means that I'm living my dream. Who knows what aspirations and adventures the future holds for me. Either way, I'm ready for the ride.

My Sexy Saturday 01.09.15
I'm once again participating in My Sexy Saturday. I didn't have anything that particularly fit the theme of New Year's, so I decided to share an snippet of Kalindra, currently available for free at all major e-vendors.
Blurb:
What happens when a warrior woman meets her match?
Harpy Kalindra stumbles upon three human corpses who’ve mysteriously crossed from Earth into Outremer through the portal she guards. A human prisoner with two traveling vampires seems her only clue. She captures the man, and brings him back to her lair to discover the truth--not only why he came to Outremer, but how he got past the defenses of the gate. She expects answers. What she doesn’t expect is the intense attraction she feels for him...attraction he seems to share.
Cameron has a secret. For years, he’s used a shard of the gateway to cross worlds without detection--for his own gain. When the gatekeeper saves him from the clutches of vampires who want the shard, he learns she’s not just another monster from Outremer. He can’t resist his attraction to her human form, and before long he’s feeling more than simple lust for her.
Kalindra’s gateway comes under constant attack from creatures who want what Cameron has. The assaults are his fault, but he can’t hand over the shard, which is a family legacy. He must convince Kalindra he can help defend the gate…but how?
Kalindra is available for free at Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and other digital bookstores.
*Please note that although Kalindra is listed as book two, it is a stand-alone. The Gatekeeper is a series of books written by different authors within the same world.*

"Kali?" His voice was filled with sleep.
She turned toward the doorway, and her heart jumped into her throat. Hair stuck up oddly on one side, he stood barefoot and shirtless. One hand rubbed through the curls on his chest. Craving punched into her gut. For him.
Putting down her glass, Kalindra sauntered over to him, loving the way lust darkened his gaze as it snagged on her hips. No, they didn't have forever. But they had now. And now was as good as any to start enjoying the time they had left.

Kalindra for FREE
Happy New Years!
To ring in this new year, my publisher surprised me by making my novella, Kalindra, FREE! I'm not sure how long it will last, but I'm absolutely thrilled. I think every author wants their books to be read, and Kalindra is one that just never took off, despite positive reviews. I'm hoping now that more people will be able to enjoy it! The story was in a collaborative series, so don't be put off by the fact it's number 2, it is a complete standalone with zero crossover.
I'm not sure how long it will last, so go grab your copy while you can!

Excerpt:
Kalindra’s anger drained away. This was her fault. She never should have let him get this close. Never should have let him kiss her.
“Damn it, you can’t do this. You can’t try and protect me.”
He snorted in response.
“I am a warrior, not a woman. Protecting the gate is my task, not yours.”
Cameron tilted his head, his eyes sweeping down her form in a slow caress that made heat rise to the surface. Biting the inside of her lip, Kalindra barely managed to hold off the shiver as awareness woke the insatiable hunger for him inside her. The desire in his eyes echoed the emotions whipping through her, destroying all control.
“You look like a woman to me.” His deep voice rolled through her, bringing the shudder she could no longer hold back. When he looked at her like that, she felt like one. Not just any woman, but a sexy one.
When he looked at her with naked desire shining from his eyes, she felt…alive. After coming so close to death moments before, she needed that feeling. Needed him. Passion tore through her until she shook from the force of holding herself back.
Understanding shone on his face, in the roguish tilt of his lips and the fire kindling his gaze. This time when he took a step forward, Kalindra did retreat. Not from him, but from what he made her feel. But he was faster. Wrapping his arm around her waist, he yanked her forward until she stood plastered against him. Every inch touching him.
She melted into his heat, her arms gripping his shoulders as she stared into his eyes. Her body, still churned up from the fight, demanded satisfaction. The fight had denied her any. Here stood a means of getting what she needed.
Their lips met in the middle. Tongues tangling together in desperation for the other. She jumped into his arms as he moved backward, slamming her back against the tree trunk behind her. She grunted at the impact.
He let up for a moment, staring into her eyes as if trying to determine if he’d been too rough. Sweet.
She didn’t want sweet. The fire inside her demanded to be conquered by the warrior inside him. She ached to be taken. Hard, and fast.

A Book Look Back at 2014
Wow. I can't believe another year has come and gone. New Year's is a great time to look back at the year behind us and to reflect. So, as this is primarily a book blog, I thought I'd take a look back at my favorite books from 2014. Some of these may have been released in prior years, but all are books I read in 2014. You'll notice a lot of authors more than once, but that's because they are simply that amazing.
In no particular order, here they are. My top 12 (because narrowing it down to 10 was impossible).

What were your favorite books of 2014?

Brink of Passion Excerpt and Pre-Sale
I'm incredibly excited to announce that Brink of Passion is now available for pre-sale on Amazon. Click HERE to reserve your copy! To celebrate, I thought I'd share the official excerpt of the book.
Enjoy!
“Are you hungry?” he asked.
Enjoy!
“Are you hungry?” he asked.
She shook her head.
“Drinks then?” Although he’d
phrased it as a question, he had no intention of letting her refuse. Now that
he’d found her, there was no way he’d let her go. He couldn’t. The beast inside
him wouldn’t stand for it.
Taking her arm, he steered her
toward the front of the hotel. Sure, he could have taken her to the hotel bar.
It would have been faster, and more convenient. But the bar was no doubt packed
full of shifters, and he wanted more privacy than that. He didn’t need a bunch
of strangers, who would no doubt sense what was happening, staring and
whispering while they were getting to know each other. Earlier, he’d seen a pub
around the corner from the hotel that seemed promising. He pointed toward the
hotel entrance as they walked and she nodded before moving ahead of him to
maneuver through the crowd.
His fingers still tingled from
touching her skin, and every nerve in his body thrummed with awareness. His
gaze strayed downward to the swing of her hips as she walked, and he bit his
lip to hold in a groan. No doubt the two of them together would burn up the
sheets once he got her into his bed.
Soon. They both knew they’d end up
there. Why deny themselves the pleasure?
She hesitated a moment, looking
over her shoulder, as they walked out of the hotel, making him wonder if she
were in fact with a man. If so, he admired her loyalty, even if it was no
longer relevant. The poor shmuck would have to find someone else. He grabbed
her hand, almost groaning at the pleasure merely touching her gave him, and led
her down the street.
She had to feel the connection
between them. The inexplicable pull toward each other. He’d never felt so certain
of anything before in his life. Suddenly he understood the possessiveness other
men displayed toward their mates. A part of him had always sneered at men who
found their mates and ignored everything else. The ones who became so enamored
that they professed undying devotion to someone they barely knew. He’d always
thought those men weak-willed, or somehow kidding themselves. But now he knew
differently.
No, he wasn’t in love with
Laurie—he didn’t even know her—but he was completely and utterly captivated by
everything about her. Love would grow. What they had between them was more
intense and consuming than that.
As they walked down the street,
more men stared at her, some shifters in town for the convention, but plenty of
full humans as well. Annoyance grew at every eye he caught looking at her with
interest. Laurie appeared either oblivious to the attention, or used to it. The
thought of the latter irritated him further. Was she looked at so often that
she’d become immune to it? Even women’s eyes were drawn to her.
When they got to the pub, Max
pulled Laurie away from everyone else and into a secluded circular booth. Away
from prying eyes. He scooted into the booth until they were seated together in
the back.
Her scent drove him wild, and he
couldn’t resist rubbing the tip of her hair between his fingers. Her eyes
tracked his movements, her mouth opening as if she wanted to protest, but after
a moment, she closed it. Pleasure filled him. Before the end of the night,
Laurie would be his.
The smile vanished from his face
as a waiter came to take their orders. The man’s eyes were riveted on his mate. A low growl rumbled in his
throat.
Pure male satisfaction filled him
when the waiter’s eyes widened in fear. He left so fast after taking their
drink orders, Max was surprised he didn’t leave skid marks.
“Are you always this friendly, or
do I bring out the best in you?” Sarcasm dripped from the words. He’d admit it,
watching other men ogle his mate was awakening his beast.
“Doesn’t it bother you?” Because
it sure as hell was bothering him.
“The growling? Nah, I have three
brothers, so your ultra alpha-ness doesn’t scare me.”
Alpha-ness? Was that even a word?
“Not me. You. Doesn’t it bother
you to have so many people making eyes at you?”
“Making eyes? What are you, eighty?”
She laughed and the sound swept through him, punched through his frustration
and brought a steady burn of lust in his gut. Low, with a hint of roughness
that sent chills down his spine.
Desire burned in the back of his
throat and pooled in his belly until thoughts of Laurie took over his entire
being. With another growl, this time one of pure need, Max leaned forward and
nipped the top of Laurie’s ear. Her laughter ceased, breath catching on a
quickly indrawn gasp. Fingers dug into his thigh, right above his knee, until
he released her ear, soothing it with a small lick before pulling back.
“I’m being serious.”
Her eyes stared at him in
confusion, lust still clouding their depths. He’d be lying if he said the sight
of her desire didn’t fill him with pride and no small amount of excitement for
the night ahead.
After a minute, she shook her
head. He could almost see her scattering droplets of bewilderment just as a dog
shakes off water after a bath. The image broke through the tension from
frustration and lust. He could be patient, because tonight would be the start
of forever.
“I’m not sure what you’re talking
about.”
She didn’t know. He could see it
in her face. She wasn’t trying to be cute, or pretend innocence. She really
didn’t see the way everyone stared at her. Somehow, that only made her more
attractive.
Unable to resist, he tangled his
fingers with hers and leaned his other arm along the back of the booth so that
he could play with her hair. Then he began to get to know her in earnest.
