Six Sunday 12/9

One of the great things about being in edits for a book, is you find all these great snippets to use for Six Sentence Sunday. Since I'm in edits for Kalindra, due to release in May 2013, I couldn't resist sharing. This is a bit longer than six sentences, but the sentences are all pretty short, so I snuck a couple extra in.

Kali spun around, knife in hand. “Do I look like a ma’am to you? Ma’am implies old maid. I am not a ma’am.”

A wicked gleam lightened his eyes. And that smile? Trouble with a capital T. “Aren’t you like three hundred years old?”

She pointed the knife at him. “Your point?”

Six Sunday 12/2

Another Sunday, which means another six sentence snippet! I had a hard time deciding what work to pull from today. I'm currently in edits for my May release, Kalindra, and found so many great things to share. But since Covert Desires comes out tomorrow (and is already available on Amazon) I figured I'd go with a snippet from that book. Plus, there are plenty of great moments in Covert Desires, too. 

This scene comes after our first date between out Danny and Amber.

Would she give into that desires, or hold out? 

She wasn't sure. And that uncertainty urged her to reach down and cover his hand on the handle, opening the door herself, and using it as a barrier to put between them. 

If they had met under other circumstances, things might have been different. But things weren't different, and imagining, even for a minute, that they could be, was a slippery slope. One she'd been down before, and one she almost hadn't come back from.

Six Sentence Sunday 11/18

I'm back for another Six Sentence Sunday! This week, I thought I'd share a snipped from Worth Fighting For, Alpine Woods Shifters book four. This is from one of my favorite scenes where Cody, our Hero, is trying to teach Misty, our heroine, self-defense.

"Fine, nothing fancy." Misty held up her hands in defeat. "You don't have to get so cranky about it," she muttered under her breath.

"I heard that."

"I knew you would," she shot back. And because she knew it would aggravate him even more, she smiled, enjoying the way his forehead crinkled in a frown.

Six Sentence Sunday - 11/11

I haven't done a Six Sentence Sunday in awhile, so I thought it was past time to come back and share a snippet. Today, I'm sharing six sentences from my upcoming release Covert Desires. Covert Desires will be available from Lyrical Press on December 3rd, 2012. Fair warning, this snippet has heat.

Then his lips moved against hers, and the jolt became a wave of heat and need that crashed into her. She hugged Danny closer, using him to pull herself away from the wall so she could feel the heat of his body against hers. She moaned against his mouth, rubbing against him. What had she been thinking to hold herself back from this? All she wanted was to feel him against her. Skin to skin.

“Sally knows how to recruit a substitute.” Parris looked in his brown eyes, juggling her darts. “You’ve never played before?”

“I swear. I’ve never played league before. Beginners luck.” Ty motioned to the dart machine. “You ready or you want to throw a few practice darts?”

Parris’ eyes narrowed. Ha. He’d said he’d never played league before, not ever played before. Sally had brought in a ringer. Confident, she shook her head. “I’m ready to get this over.”

“Pretty sure of yourself aren’t you?” Ty tilted his head to the side, watching her reaction.

“You don’t have to be cocky when you’re good.”

“And you think you’re good?” Ty pressed. “A natural?”

She frowned, her face crinkling. “I have a lot of free time on my hands here when there’s nothing to do except practice.”

Another couple hours and Ty Wallace would be out of her sight, her bar, and her life. She wished erasing him from her thoughts and dreams would be as easy.

Excerpt:
“Leera.” Vaihan breathed out her name.

She darted a look at him, eyes shimmering with tears. Wind tossed her curls in all directions. What a horrid feeling indeed, to be trapped among the living when all you wanted to be was dead. Once, he too had longed for the cycle to end, but not anymore. Not in a long time.

“Don’t come over here. My mascara has made a mess of my face.” She bent toward the side mirror of the silver SUV, her plump bottom pushed out.

“It’s going to take a lot more than smudged makeup to do that.” He cocked his head to admire the seam between her thighs. “You’re gorgeous.”

The corner of her mouth twitched upward. “You are some kind of smooth talker.” She lifted upright then spun toward him.

Admittedly, he stood too close but he itched to touch her again.

When she attempted to step back, he scooped his arm behind her, resting his fingers against the bare skin of her open-backed gown.

A breath hitched at her lips. As her heart rate accelerated, her eyes widened with fear.

“Not so fast.” He steadied her. “I’m not going to hurt you.”

She wrapped her hands around the upper part of her body, creating a barrier. Goose bumps covered her exposed arms.

He unfastened the buttons of his jacket, slipped off the garment and then rested it on her shoulders.

“You don’t have to.” Her gazed traveled from his neck to where two buttons were undone on his dress shirt.

Did she like what she saw? For now, he’d content himself with not finding disgust in her eyes. As her dark gaze rose, it met his, and her body relaxed. A run of black makeup was smeared beneath her eyes. He pressed his thumb to her skin, wiping away tears and mascara.

She reached for his hand, then pressed his flesh to hers. “You’re so hot.”

“I’ll have you know, I’m not just good looks.” He let his hand rest in the small of her back.

“I meant your skin.”

“Of course you did. I’m undead. My appearance is usually a cause for fear.” Most of his kind paid for human female companionship. He’d never needed to. Zombies had their own underground scene. Lavish nightclubs, where humans offered themselves up blindfolded, tied up and bound to the wall or ceiling in exchange for a taste of poison. These places provided a safe environment where the undead could feast on the living in a number of ways.

Not his cup of tea.

“Hmm.” She angled her head. “Given the lines of your brow, nose and lips with the structure of your jaw, I’d say you’re easy on the eyes.”

In mere moments of knowing him, she’d been able to see him as more than his scary exterior.

“Undead of my persuasion have a body temperature that is about six degrees hotter than humans.” With his index finger, he tucked a rogue curl behind her ear.

“Guess that’s why I’m not chilly anymore.” She met his stare.

“Here I thought the change was your attraction to me.” He smiled.

Born from the union of her Scottish and Belgian mother and an African American and Cherokee father, a.c.Mason’s youth was filled with dichotomies and moving from place to place.
