Six Sunday #4

It's Sunday, and I'm once again participating in Six Sentence Sunday. This week, I've decided to post another six sentence snippet from my latest release, The Wolf Within. Enjoy!

"Why did you kiss me today?"

"I thought that was pretty obvious." Taking one hand off the wheel, he threaded his fingers through hers. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her staring at their linked hands.

"Brendan, you're a great guy..."

"Oh please. Don't tell me you're giving me the 'you're a great guy' break-up speech."

The Wolf Within is available at Lyrical Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and digital bookstores everywhere! For More information about me or my books, check out my website at www.sondraebennett.com.

Thank You

First, let me announce that today I'm guest blogging about why I love shifters over at Romance Author Hotspot. It's a fun post, so please stop by and say hi HERE.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in America. A day when we're supposed to give thanks and think about all the things we're grateful for in our lives. I'm grateful for a lot of different things, my health, my family, my friends. But I'm also grateful to all of you. The bloggers and reviews who have reviewed my books and help introduce me to readers, the writers who offer support online when I'm feeling low or writing advice on their blogs. Most of all, I'm grateful to my readers. Those of you who've spent your hard earned money and your time (I know how precious time can be) to read my books. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Six Sentence Sunday - #3

Since tomorrow is release day (although some sites have jumped the gun and released it early) for The Wolf Within, Alpine Woods Shifters book three, I decided to pull my six sentences from it this week. Enjoy!

Heat pooled in her belly, and she felt her blood bubble. What was wrong with her? She shouldn't be turned-on by this primitive grunting and growling. As he moved closer, she gripped his shoulders, his breath falling hot against her skin. He ground his hips against her again, and his mouth claimed hers in a brutal kiss. Her head fell back with a clunk against the shelf."

Six Sentence Sunday - #2

I had so much fun reading everyone's Six Sentence Sunday posts last week, I decided to join in again! This time, I chose an excerpt from the first book in my Alpine Woods Shifters series, Arctic Winds.

“Then what are you worried about?” Samantha whispered, gripping his forearms. He didn’t answer, but his gaze lowered to her lips and he growled again, low and deep. From her position, pushed up against the car by his hard chest, Samantha didn’t hear the rumble so much as she felt it reverberate against her. With the car behind her and the equally unyielding chest in front of her, Samantha felt an unfamiliar spike in her desire as she realized there was no escape. She didn’t want one. She had no thoughts of running away from this man.

October Reads

I'm a little late again this month, but since it's November, I wanted to share the books I read in October. Since I did a lot of rereading in September, I made sure all of my October reads were new books. I even went a step further and read mostly new authors to me (I snuck in a Kresley Cole book even though she's not a new author to me).

Kiss of a Demon King - by: Kresley Cole - 3 stars. This book would be rated higher, but compared to the other books in the series, I found it lacking. To be honest, I've never been a fan of "capture" romances, and even though this story had a nice twist (the man starting out as the prisoner of the woman), the first half of the book was exactly that. But as always, Ms. Cole is a phenomenal writer with likeable, quirky characters. And the last half of the book was extremely enjoyable.

Chocolate Damsel - by: a.c. Mason - 5 stars. I picked up this book for a couple reasons, not least of which was the interesting blurb, the numerous positive reviews, and the stunning cover (I know, I'm shallow, but I totally judge books by their covers). I was very happy with what I got. The book could have been fleshed out a bit, but I knew going in that it was a novella (in my opinion if you pick up a novella, you can't expect to get a full novel), and the character development and plot were spot on. Overall, I'd highly recommend this read to anyone looking for a historical werewolf novella.

Chocolate Temptation - by: a.c. Mason - 4 star. First, let me just point out how much I love these covers. The sequel to Chocolate Damsel wasn't quite as good as the first book, which is why I rated it a 4 instead of a 5. But in all honesty, it was another highly enjoyable read. I finished both books in the course of a weekend because I simply couldn't put them down. Highly recommended.

Demons are a Girl's Best Friend - by: Linda Wisdom - 2 stars. I really struggled with this book, and ended up putting it down before finishing. I wanted to like this book, and on the surface, all the elements were there to make an incredible read. But the end product fell...flat. The heroine's snarky attitude felt like a cheap imitation of really good spunky heroines like Mac Lane or the heroines in the IAD series. It tried too hard to fit the mold of what is currently "in".

Call Me - by: Lena Matthews - 3 stars. I got this book as a kindle freebie and glad I did. It was a good no holds hot sex read, which was exactly what I was in the mood for. But I don't know that I would have been as happy had I paid for the book. Take from that what you will.

Lucifer's Daughter - by: Eve Langlais - 4 stars. I stumbled upon a character interview by ms. Langlais on Bitten by Paranormal Romance. Side note: If you haven't been to Bitten by Paranormal romance yet, I highly recommend it! The character interview was so much fun, I immediately went out and bought the first book in the series --something that pissed off the other books waiting patiently in my TBR pile. Lucifer's Daughter was a unique and enjoyable read. My biggest complaint was that it was written in first person--something that is hard to do right in my opinion. As a reader, very few books work for me when written in first person (a few do, most don't). Other than that, very enjoyable. I'm currently working on the second book and will talk about it in my November Reads post.

So those were my October Reads. Top pick of the month has to go to Chocolate Damsel by: a.c. Mason.

What books did you read in October? What was your top pick?

Six Sentence Sunday - #1

So, this is my first time participating in a blogging phenomenon called Six Sentence Sunday. The name pretty much explains it all - six sentence excerpts. :) I've chosen a piece of my newest release, Chasing Paradise, book two in my Alpine Woods Shifters series.

Gwen stared blankly into his eyes for a moment before pushing her plate aside, standing, and very deliberately crossing to the doorway into the living room. Had he said something wrong? At the doorway, she turned around and glanced back at him.

"Are you coming?" she asked, a sparkle in her eyes.

"Coming where?"

In answer, Gwen deliberately untied her bathrobe and let it slide to the floor. "Where that look on your face promised to take us both."

An Amazing Review for The Wolf Within

Even though The Wolf Within won't hit stores until November 21st -- a date that's quickly approaching!-- Lyrical Press sent out a few ARCs (advance review copies). Already, I've received a very nice review from Manic Readers - 4 stars.

In addition, just this week I received an email notification about another advance review from Whipped Cream Reviews. Not only did they write me an amazing review, they put me in the running for their book of the week weekend poll. Voting only runs on Saturday (tomorrow) thru Sunday, so I'll post a link to the poll when I can.

Here's some quotes from the review:
...this is a book you need to read.

Sondrae Bennett spins a great tale that makes you drop everything else to read more

TRR YES! Party

If you don't know about this yet, you absolutely should. The Romance Reviews (TRR) is a great review site, but they also run an author/reader interaction forum as well as hosting contests. This month, they're hosting a huge contest on their site called the Year End Splash (YES!) Party. They have some fun games and trivia, and each question you answer and game you play gives you a chance to win some great prizes. I'm one of the authors involved, so you might see the Arctic Winds cover/trivia if you stop by!
